Terms of use
Last changed .
These terms cover Ray Kiln (raykiln.dev and the Ray Kiln app), run by Pablo Miranda. Reading the site needs no account and these terms ask nothing of you for it. They matter once you make an account, share a shader or buy Ray Kiln Plus.
Your account
Accounts are free and for people 13 or older. You sign in with a code sent to your email address; keep your email account safe, since it is the key to this one. You can download what is stored about you, and delete your account, from your account page at any time.
Ray Kiln Plus and payment
- Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our orders. Paddle provides all customer service inquiries and handles returns. Paddle's buyer terms also apply to your purchase.
- Ray Kiln Plus is a single purchase of US$10, not a subscription: nothing renews and nothing more is charged. The price is on the Plus page, and checkout shows it in your currency with any sales tax or VAT for your country.
- Plus is for the account that bought it, and gives it the Plus features of the Ray Kiln app and site, including those added in later versions, for as long as Ray Kiln runs. The Plus page lists them. Everything that was free stays free.
- If you are under 18, you need a parent's or guardian's permission to buy Plus.
- If the price changes later, it doesn't affect a purchase already made.
- If Ray Kiln ever closes, everyone with Plus is told by email at least 30 days before.
Refunds
- 30 days: if Ray Kiln Plus isn't for you, ask for a full refund within 30 days of buying it, by writing to support@pablin.me or through Paddle, which sends your receipt. Plus ends on that account once it is refunded.
- After 30 days, purchases are not refunded.
- Nothing here limits your rights under the law where you live. Consumers in the European Union, the EEA, the United Kingdom and Switzerland have a statutory 14-day right to withdraw from a purchase of digital content; the 30 days above include it.
The refund policy also has its own page.
What you share
A shared shader is its source code, the recording the app makes of it, a title and a description, shown with your handle. You keep the rights you have in it. By sharing it you allow Ray Kiln to store it, show it, play its recording and offer its source on the site and in the app, and to make the small copies that takes (such as thumbnails and cached copies). Public and unlisted shaders can be seen by anyone with the link; private ones only by you.
Collections you make public or unlisted show their title, description and notes, with your handle, to anyone with the link; the same rules apply to them.
Each shader shows the licence you chose: CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 unless you pick another (CC BY 4.0, MIT, or all rights reserved). That licence is what lets others reuse your code, and on what terms. A shader marked all rights reserved can be read, but not opened as a fork in the app.
Only share what you have the right to share. If your shader builds on someone else's, say so and follow their licence.
Forks of the episodes
The episodes' code and videos belong to Ray Kiln and are all rights reserved, with one permission: you may use, change and share shaders that start from episode code, in Ray Kiln and in your own work, commercial or not, as long as you credit Ray Kiln (a line such as “Based on Ray Kiln, episode 6” with a link to the episode). You may not republish the episodes themselves, or collect them, as they are.
What isn't allowed
- Shaders or text that are hateful, sexual, violent towards real people, or illegal.
- Code copied from someone else against its licence, or passed off as your own.
- Spam, advertising, or anything meant to mislead.
- Shaders built to hang or harm a computer, or attempts to break, overload or get around how the site works.
Shaders can be reported from their page. A shader with several reports is hidden until it is looked at. Ray Kiln may hide or remove anything that breaks these terms, and close accounts that keep doing so.
Running someone's shader
The site only plays recordings: it never runs a shader in your browser. The app runs a shader only when you press Run, after showing you its code. A shader is a program; a badly written one can make your Mac's graphics slow for a moment. Run code you have read.
No guarantees
Ray Kiln is offered as it is. It may change, pause or stop, and while care is taken, it is not guaranteed to be free of mistakes or always available. As far as the law allows, Ray Kiln is not liable for losses from using it, and its total liability to you is limited to what you paid in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law, or your statutory rights as a consumer.
Changes and contact
If these terms change in a way that matters, the change is shown here with its date; if it matters to people with Plus, they are emailed at least 30 days before it applies. To ask about them, or to ask for something to be taken down, use support@pablin.me.
